http://ljbook.com/ might be your best bet (if you can get it to work - it's sometimes patchy). It turns it all into a pdf, which means other people can read it. The other archival thingies use special formats etc. and are suitable for private storage, which I'm assuming is not what you're after.
I use LJArchive: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ljarchive/ - it makes it into a little database that's searchable. Sometimes I use it just to find old entries I wrote and only remember one or two words from.
I tried for months to get LJBook to work and couldn't. In the end, after I migrated to Wordpress, turns out it was SUPER easy to import all my LJ posts and comments into Wordpress! Tags and all! Only problem was that while private posts remained private, f'locked posts became public, so if that's an issue, is problematic :)

From Wordpress, backing up the blog is easy.
