Thank you all for your messages of love and support for Paul. He is indeed very unwell but pain-free and relaxed and I am sure comforted by the knowledge he is very, very loved. He is at home with us where he belongs. I will not be doing facebook updates via his account, so keep an eye out for some blog entries as I endeavour to keep you up to date best I can.
Thank you also for your offers of help. I am doing okay, mustering up strength (not sure where from) and that keeps me going, determined to do the best I can for both he and Isla throughout this time. Isla is also doing well and loving school where she is following in her dad's footsteps of becoming a voracious reader (jumping from level 1 to level 18 in her first assessment - most kids are still level 1). Her parents are super proud, no one more so than her daddy. She sits with him some nights when he is up and reads him her reader.
Forgive me for not responding to you all individually, but consider this a warm thank you from me and all the Haines family.
Love and support to you, Jules. Strength is a strange thing - you muster what you have to. That seems to be how it works. If you are brave (and you are), you get what you need.
For my part - and I'm sure anyone else who's contacted you individually feels the same way - you don't need to reply to anything. This time is not about us. The important thing is there is lots of support on hand, whenever/however/if you need it - and with no obligation to need it. Your privacy and space is super important.
Level 18! Awesome! You guys must be so delighted with Isla's reading.
When I was a little schoolgirl - and I was literally a little one, the smallest kid in the school until Grade 2, and then I only lost my "title" because my younger sister started prep - well, I picked up a found-object mantra from somewhere. It was a quatrain about reading, and I loved it because I sensed there were ways of growing that were not tied to the genetics of being tall (which I was never going to be). There were more important ways of growing.
I thought you guys might like to share that quatrain with Isla. I suspect she will feel the magic in it too.
the more you read the more you know the more you know the more you grow
Thanks for the taking the time, Jules. But only do what you can as far as LJ goes. We're not the point. Paul is. Just give him a hug and a kiss from all of us out here in LJ land, and remind him that he's in our thoughts and prayers ... as are you all.
Glad he's pain free and home, and very glad you're managing okay. Nothing much I can do from NSW but wish there were.
Great news about Isla! Both our kids love their reading :)
Try to make some time to look after yourself, too. There's a big community here ready to step up to help out with things. Don't be afraid to ask for volunteers on here to pick up some groceries and drop them in if things are hectic, or do any of those other annoying jobs.
Thx so much Jules for keeping us updated. I know how hard this is and words of comfort don't really help at this time. Support is here. It's always hard to ask for help during grief - no expectations to respond to our messages but I will be checking in with you from time to time to see if there is anything I can assist with. Sending big luv to you, Paul, Isla and the rest of your family. Much love Michele x
