A word from the decaying mind of Paul Haines

The Dark Sister comes a creeping...

These are the last days ...
Travel the blood-stained trails of Kathmandu.
Explore doorways to other worlds.
Fight for humanity’s darkening soul.
... when the powers of the Gods wane and evil walks the Earth.

Of my two collections due out this year, this is the dark one, the one to make you shudder, where serial killers and paedophiles lurk, where the monster clothed in human skin shakes your hand and smiles, sits you down and buys you a drink, then wraps an arm tight around your shoulders.

Due out October, 2009, it can be pre-ordered at Brimstone Press and further information on the new collection at my website.

And more on the Demented Brother soon...

Ooh! What a striking cover! I like it.

Shane Jiraiya Cummings. Quite good, isn't it? I like too.

But the magic words are, um, pre-order. Pass it on...

Any original stories? If so, could you send me word files of those specific stories in advance, so I can start reading them for my Best of the year Horror #2?

A 10,000 word novella entitled "The Past Is A Bridge Best Left Burnt" is winging its way to your inbox...

That ain't no novella--that's a wee novelette :-).
Good. I'm not quite done reading for my summary of 08 but will be verrrryyyyy soon.

ah, blame our Ditmars for saying anything over 7500 words...

ohmigod. And they've left out novellinis!!!! (just kidding--once in awhile we Americans talk about inventing the novellini)

That's actually a type of pasta we have here in Melbourne, akin to the tortellini. Instead of using a meat filling it uses ink, sometimes squid, but more often than not HP LaserJet as its a cheaper option.
ellen_datlow From: ellen_datlow Date: May 4th, 2009 11:47 pm (UTC) (Link)
LOL--I've had squid pasta I think --but have avoided the ink.

Why didn't someone tell me that it was HP laserjet ink. I would've tried some. Printer ink is kosher! (squid ink is absolutely not.)

Ellen, did a copy of Masques reach you? I can email you one through your LJ email address if it hasn't yet.
ellen_datlow From: ellen_datlow Date: May 5th, 2009 12:13 am (UTC) (Link)
I'm sorry--can you refresh my memory? What is Masques?
gillpolack From: gillpolack Date: May 5th, 2009 12:18 am (UTC) (Link)
It's the latest Canberra Spec Fiction Guild anthology. I was released in march and you asked for a copy. I asked someone if they could get it to you, but their life has become a little complex since then. (and I keep a pdf of it for moments such as these.) I wish it had a story of Paul's in (Paul - are you listening? - one day I want a story from you!), but it has a fair amount of horror stories anyhow, mostly from new writers.
ellen_datlow From: ellen_datlow Date: May 5th, 2009 12:20 am (UTC) (Link)
I don't believe I got it yet but I really need a hard copy. I hate reading pdf files.
ellen_datlow From: ellen_datlow Date: May 5th, 2009 12:22 am (UTC) (Link)
Checking out what the cover looks like, I definitely did not yet get a copy.
ellen_datlow From: ellen_datlow Date: May 5th, 2009 12:23 am (UTC) (Link)
Who should I email there?
gillpolack From: gillpolack Date: May 5th, 2009 12:24 am (UTC) (Link)
If you could give me a snail mail address, I'll send it on to the person with your hard copy (we did put one aside for you) and make sure it gets sent. My email (in case you've lost it - I seem to lose every email address anyone's ever given me) is gpolack(at)triviumpublishing(dot)com.

It will stil take a couple of weeks - airmail from Australia to the US seems to run very slow right now.
ellen_datlow From: ellen_datlow Date: May 5th, 2009 12:26 am (UTC) (Link)
I'll email you.
It's not a rush, as I haven't begun reading for 09 yet.

We don't have seamail any more so all overseas packages cost a LOT.
gillpolack From: gillpolack Date: May 5th, 2009 12:08 am (UTC) (Link)
Awesome!
gillpolack From: gillpolack Date: May 5th, 2009 12:35 am (UTC) (Link)
If it's due in October, does that mean it will be launched at Conflux? (please say "I expect so.")
paulhaines From: paulhaines Date: May 5th, 2009 01:05 am (UTC) (Link)
It's a firm possibility! Pending health and all that lovely sort of thing.
gillpolack From: gillpolack Date: May 5th, 2009 01:36 am (UTC) (Link)
Talk to Sharyn of Eneit Press. She's booked a Conflux spot for my book. I don't mind sharing if you don't, and it means you can have a Conflux event regardless and just have to worry if you can be there or not. Mine is so unlike yours as horror can be, and still be considered horror, so it might be fun to do a shared launch. It's just a question of whether you would find it convenient or whether Sharyn is up for it.

Very shiny.

Sling me a copy of the Media Release for HorrorScope, AHWA News Bomb, Darklands, etc, etc...
paulhaines From: paulhaines Date: May 5th, 2009 02:14 am (UTC) (Link)
Hi Talie, Shane will have an official media release closer to the time of publication. Consider it slung as soon as I have one!

I look forward to it with the appropriate dread.
